Eating disorders are often linked with depression, anxiety and low self-esteem though there is no one common denominator as contributing factors are unique.
Bulimia and anorexia have similar symptoms in respect that a person has critical feelings about their body weight and both use radical methods to control the perception of being overweight. They might use of use of diet pills, laxatives and vomiting is common along with the development of physical issues such as hair loss, damage to teeth and many other physical manifestations due to lack of proper nutrition. Clients with any of these eating disorders can be secretive and good at masking their condition so can take time to be flagged and often a person is extremely resistant to accepting there is an issue.
Given the complexity of the disorder hypnotherapy, NLP and CBT work well with medical intervention; though for hypnosis to be effective the person does have to want to change and learn to resume normal eating habits to maintain their health and a suitable weight.
Hypnosis and NLP looks to facilitate a change in thinking when it comes to eating and understanding the root cause of eating disorders is useful for recovery. These tap into the subconscious to reveal an event, comment or situation that may have contributed to the development of the eating disorder. This greatly contributes to the overall well being of the client, assisting in dealing with issues of low self esteem, self confidence and even depression allowing them to develop a healthy approach to eating and regain full health.
Hypnotherapy enables clients to learn to deal with unhelpful thinking and develop healthy eating habits again and know should they relapse it is not the end of the world and help is at hand to get back on track, happy and in control of their lives and enjoying being in the driving seat.
